Alaska Emergency Medical Technician-2 Advanced Skills Training
Take your emergency medical training beyond basic life support. The Alaska EMT-2 course builds upon existing EMT-1 knowledge and experience, introducing intravenous access, fluid administration, and selected medications authorized at the EMT-2 level. Available through in-person or hybrid instruction, the course combines clinical education with supervised, hands-on skills training and practical competency evaluations.
01 / COURSE EXPERIENCE
Develop the knowledge and practical techniques needed to establish intravenous access, including patient preparation, equipment selection, venipuncture, and safe procedural practices. Practical skills are completed through instructor-led training.
Build an understanding of intravenous fluid therapy, medication administration, patient monitoring, and medication safety within Alaska EMT-2 scope and authorized medical direction. Foundational instruction may be completed online or in person, depending on course delivery format.
Apply advanced skills through in-person supervised practice, patient-care scenarios, clinical decision-making, and final competency evaluations.
02 / CERTIFICATION OPPORTUNITY
The EMT-2 course provides an educational pathway for eligible Alaska EMT-1 providers seeking to expand their emergency medical knowledge and skills.
EMT-2 is an Alaska-specific certification level that prepares eligible providers to initiate intravenous access, administer fluids, and provide selected medications and treatments within their authorized scope of practice. EMT-2-level patient care requires sponsorship by a State of Alaska-approved EMS physician medical director.
Applicants must hold current Alaska EMT-1 certification, meet applicable patient-care experience prerequisites, and satisfy course eligibility requirements. Both in-person and hybrid options include required practical skills, clinical assessments, and competency evaluations. Course completion does not automatically confer EMT-2 certification. Students must complete applicable examinations, maintain a valid CPR credential, obtain the required medical director sponsorship, and meet Alaska certification requirements. Alaska EMT-2 is not a nationally recognized certification level.
